Samuel Gawith - Elmo's Reserve
Samuel Gawith - Elmo's Reserve
Samuel Gawith Elmo's Reserve has a coarse grind with moderate moisture and uses dark-fired Kentucky Burley and fermented Virginia tobaccos. The blend is scented with Tonka bean, which creates the primary vanilla note along with secondary notes of leather, nuts, and dried fruit. The colour is dark brown with visible flecks.
Nicotine strength is medium. The scent has dessert-like characteristics with vanilla being the strongest note, followed by almond and spice elements from the Tonka bean. This is reportedly the nasal version of Samuel Gawith's 1792 Flake pipe tobacco.

The description is right, this is a one of a kind snuff. Nothing else I ever tried is anything like it. In my opinion the vanilla and fruit and almond is there but its mixed together, almost as if it were in something like a chai tea mix. But I do have a bad sense of smell so take what I say with a grain of salt.
But I did smell something else. It was a field, a wet field, covered in fog and dew, early in the morning. The soil, which is mostly peat, is damp, and you can smell it mixing with the wet grass in the field. I see a man and his dog walking through this field in the early hours of the morning as the sun has just crested the horizon. He reaches into his pockets and pulls out a biscuit for his dog, and some snuff for himself. The snuff mixes with the flavors of his morning tea he drinks as he walks with his canine friend. They sit and watch the sun rise. Life is good.
It's a pleasant aroma, the kind you take for granted and don't realize how nice it is until one day you don't smell it anymore. It's an aroma that brings back memories in the kind of way that smelling your mothers cooking for the 1st time after spending time away at school does.
In my head, this is the aroma of this influential customers morning ritual with his beloved dog Elmo. Whatever the truth, I am happy they wanted to share it, because its a phenomenal and truly unique, dare I say profound, experience that I suggest you try for yourself. I will buy this again!
This is by far my favorite snuff. It is making my mouth water just thinking about it. Just the right amount of vanilla and sweetness. I just shovel it in.
I picked this up for the good reviews. The nicotine is a medium and is fine by me. When I take it in it's easy and I can't really smell the vanilla. But when I opened the tin it was like a fig newton aroma. If you like different and new things try this it is awesome!
When compared to most Toque and WoS snuffs Elmos Reserve is quite coarse in grind. The vanilla scent is strong in it but not overpowering by any stretch. This takes a little more effort to get into the nose than just a normal breath but not much more. This is by far my favorite non-mentholated snuff. An amazing product you will not regret trying.
One of my first scented snuffs, this is a treat for the nose. Just enough moisture content to keep it in the nose without being too "clumpy". Smells delicious in the can and is even better in the nose! It's like snorting a piece of cake instead of eating it. Great vanilla hint that lingers. It'll make you want more.
