Best dark has a perfect medium coarse grind with perfect amount of moisture.
The burn is very gentle.
From first sniff I was hooked. The initial hit of tobacco is instantly accompanied with a lasting hit of bergamot and woodland aroma.

What a treat this snuff is! It starts with a tingle in the nose, then one is overwhelmed with a powerful hit of bergamot that is invigorating and refreshing. There is a good amount of nicotine in this snuff, and the grind is like a black rappee. Earl Grey Tea for the nose.
Best Dark is one of Wilsons of Sharrow's all-time classic offerings, though there does seem to be confusion among snuff takers as to how this snuff should be classified. Essentially, Best Dark is a strong, dark, coarse snuff scented with bergamot. Think of it somewhere between a darker, richer SP and a scented Kendal Brown, and you will almost certainly be in the ballpark. In the front of the nose, Best Dark offers a blast of straw, coffee, peat smoke, earth, wood, leather, and cocoa aromas that are accompanied by a comparatively delicate yet persistent bergamot presence. The grind is coarse, and the moisture content is quite high. Nicotine presence is also high, meaning that this snuff can easily deliver quite a rush. Overall, this is a great snuff. Fans of classic SP snuffs owe it to themselves to take this one for a spin. For me, this is a desert island snuff. I always keep at least one tin on hand.
Best Dark, with its sneeze-worthy burn, is substantially stronger than Wilson’s Best SP. Like comparing a short coffee with an alongé, its high nicotine content wakes the senses and numbs the incisors…which I very much like. Fecal brown and high in moisture, this SP predominantly tastes of tanned leather with the Bergamot serving as an adornment, like shaved citrus zest floating atop the crema of an espresso. Best Dark is a nice tin to share at cocktail hour with an Old Fashioned or even a Negroni and transitions well to garlicy appetisers such as Escargots Bourguignons or Gambas al Ajillo.
