It's like smelling the highest quality pipe tobacco. No stems are used, and that translates into a luxuriant nose feel. Strong in the nic department, too. I'm sorry it took me so long to try this simple yet exquisite snuff. The stars aligned on this one.
Auld Alliance is great snuff. The other reviewer's description of the aromas is similar to what I've experienced with it?notes of Madeira wine, cedar, and just a hint of vanilla. One thing worth mentioning is the nicotine strength; this is very strong snuff! Aside from the powdery white Indian snuffs, I believe this is the strongest one you're going to find on this website.
Aside from great aromas and high nicotine content, the demi-gros grind makes Auld Alliance a delightfully easy snuff to take?and all too easy to take too much of! It goes in nicely, but the only reason I didn't give it a five-star rating is because the drip can be really unpleasant at times. Still, I've found myself returning to this over and over, and I even bought a 50g tin. Keep up the excellent work Sir Scott!
Another marvellous tobacco from the snuff world's very own member of the nobility, Sir John Scott. Auld Alliance is one of those rare snuffs that promises much and delivers every expectation. Upon opening the elegant glass jar you immediately notice the complex, sweet aroma and the first pinch is a transport to delight: vanilla, toffee, madeira wine, wonderful strands of flavour separating and joining together in an olfactory dance that is the mark of the best of the best. Truly magnificient.
