I’ve been lingering over this tin of Singleton’s Super M for the better part of two weeks now; never really moving-on despite my backlog of snuffs to taste. Elusive when addressed directly, it haunts the senses when you ignore it. Vintage like an antiquarian bookshop, it tastes of menthol, manure and saw dust. First manufactured in 1870 by Singleton & Cole of Birmingham, it is now produced by Wilson’s of Sharrow by agreement with their successors and assigns. Moist and mild, it is a clean menthol snuff without camphor or burn. Simple, deep and melancholic, it is like sipping a mint julep while quarantined in a dark and lonely room with Dolores O’Riorden of “The Cranberries” singing Bertolt Brecht’s “3 Penny Opera” in the background.

This is a darker blend of tobacco along the lines of santo domingo, but instead of oils or florals it has a sharp menthol. I get a slight sour note (air cured virginia?) and lots of tobacco. This is a particularly good snuff with an earthy note. Nicotine is about medium and the menthol level is just right. This snuff just says "old fashioned" to my nose and I really enjoy it!

I notice only one review for this and after experimenting with 40-50 different brands and flavors i felt compelled to write my first review and give this 5 stars. It's got an nice menthol kick but some real tobacco, leathery flavor under it that really says quality to me. It's my favorite of all so far for an all around, every day snuff!

There is at least one other 'singleton's', from Africa, which was very different, flavorless and dry, don't confuse the two.

Just tried this snuff. I really like it. The menthol hit is smooth and the texture is fine and moist. Lasts a long time too. I am beginning to trend towards snuff that has more meat on it and this snuff fits the bill nicely.

Even though this snuff now appears to made by Wilson's of Sharrow, it retains the same profile as the earlier version of it's namesake, which was manufactured by a different company. But thats not important here. This is a medium coarse ground, menthol snuff. It has a similar grind to several of the snuffs made by Swedish Match. Medium in moisture, its easy to take, and won't hit your throat. The menthol isn't overdone, and as it settles in, the tobacco scent begins to appear. It's got a medium level of nicotine, so it satisfies; yet the flavors blend together and provide a very pleasant snuffing experience.
